We must realize that the Reformation world view leads in the direction of government freedom. But the humanist world view with inevitable certainty leads in the direction of statism. This is so because humanists, having no god, must put something at the center, and it is inevitably society, government, or the state. Francis A. Schaeffer
About This Quote

The Reformation was a movement that sought to return Christianity to what it had been in the early church, a religion that celebrated personal faith over institutional authority. The churches of the Reformation, such as those of John Calvin and Martin Luther, rejected the authority of the Pope and the Catholic Church. This movement began in Europe during the 15 th century and lasted until it was eventually suppressed by those who opposed its doctrines, particularly those of Martin Luther. The irony is that modern-day advocates of statism do not even believe in a god, so they have no other ultimate authority but society or government –which is nothing more than a group of people –and none of them believe that this group should be supreme.
